about us

March 29, 2014 will commence the first inaugural “wings of ART” art auction and gala to benefit one of Oklahoma’s most notable nonprofit organization Special Care, Inc. whose mission is “To nurture all children with and without special needs in safe, inclusive and supportive environments through education, therapeutic intervention and community acceptance.” The “wings of ART” event will be a ticketed event only by which all proceeds will directly benefit Special Care and the individual artists who so graciously have chosen to be a part of this show.

This all inclusive evening consists of Oklahoma’s finest art, decadent hors d’oeuvres, full bar, and musical entertainment. Enjoy the dressy casual style and convenient valet service at Istvan Gallery. Guests will be greeted and escorted into the gallery to enjoy the art and atmosphere created just for this night. Each piece of art on display will be available for purchase by silent auction or the buy it now price. This unique evening is set to bridge together a fine night out by which any moneys spent will go directly back to Special Care and the artists involved.

“wings of ART” was founded by two friends who share a mutual love for the amazing kids at Special Care and the flourishing art scene in Oklahoma City. Michael Collins (Special Care Marketing and Promotions Director) and Christie Owen (local artist, Fringe Vice President & Marketing Director)  began by teaching some art lessons at Special Care. The art lessons were enjoyed by all; the children, teachers, artists, parents and volunteers. Everyone was pulling together to make things happen. Soon the therapeutic connection between the kids and art gave way to solutions for other issues; Special Care needed more space to grow and Oklahoma artists needed more local support. “wings of ART” was created with the mission to benefit everyone involved so the kids at Special Care can evolve, Oklahoma artists can connect with the community and the sponsors get great local art.

“Women, art, and children of all abilities – a wonderful combination to bring awareness and caring support to Special Care!  We are so grateful to all who are giving of their special gifts and talents to the “wings of ART” event.  It will be a unique opportunity to lift up and recognize abilities in an atmosphere of warmth and acceptance.”
— Pam Newby, Executive Director & Founder of  Special Care Inc.

“Special Care is one of the most important organizations in Oklahoma City that is absolutely non-profit and all about giving back. I believe our “wings of ART” event could not only be something unique and very special to this organization and the special needs kids who attend here, but also a way we could align ourselves with local artists with an absolute goal of selling each and every piece of art submitted and in return we only ask that they donate a portion of the proceeds back to the school (amount doesn’t matter, it is more about doing something for the community, the kids, giving our parents, teachers, local artists and friends a fun night out while raising awareness that children are children first despite their abilities). I am very excited about this happening and the possibilities of turning it into an annual event that serves such a great cause.”
— Michael Collins, Special Care  Marketing and Promotions Director, wings of ART Co – Founder

“It’s an all around win for everyone involved. Artists can show any type of art and donate any portion of their sales, buyers get great local art, and the Special Care kids get what they need. I am honored to work with the best people in our community in order to achieve a successful event.”
Christie Owen, ArtistFringe Vice President & Marketing Director, wings of ART Co – Founder

“While I run a commercial gallery, I consider it a space for the community and live to support activities like wings of Art.”
— Stephen Kovash, Commissioner at Oklahoma City Arts Commission, Istvan Gallery Owner

“I am so excited about this event! It will be a fun evening. Please join us in supporting Special Care and our local artists.”
— Marianne Trigg, Special Care Board Member and Event Planner
